NEW PASSPORTS
Clients are reminded that as of 26 October 2006, any passport issued on or after this date by Ireland or another Visa Waiver Programme country must be an e-passport for VWP travellers to be eligible to enter the United States without a visa. We understand that the Irish Passport Office is on schedule to issue passports which conform with the requirements by the relevant date. However, passengers applying for new passports may risk delays in processing their applications if they supply photos which do not conform to tightened standards with respect to size. Most photo booths and pharmacy cameras now conform to the new standards. Passengers should be encouraged to get their photos from a reputable source so as to avoid delays.
Department of Homeland Security's US-VISIT program has updated its VWP Passport Requirement Traveller Guide, which clarifies passport requirements for visitors travelling to the US as part of the VWP. To view the guide, please see the following link.
